What we did

JG&JR Langridge Ltd were instructed as main contractor to fully refurbish two of the grade II listed seafront shelters located on Hove promenade. The two shelters had fallen into poor repair in recent years which has led to the roof structures being removed and all salvageable cast iron and other parts placed into storage. Our works comprised new roof structure and roof deck, new copper roof coverings, obtaining replacement cast iron sections and installing along with all of the refurbished salvaged components. Full redecoration of the new and existing surfaces were carried out on completion.

Copper roof covering

New rolled copper roof to match closely adjoining shelters layed on a felt membrane and timber deck.

New roof structure

Two complete new galvanised steel roof structures were fabricated off site and carefully craned into position. On completion we installed the tongue and groove soffit boarding and fascia.

Cast iron components

Existing salvaged cast iron parts were brought out of storage. Missing sections were measured and cast at a local foundry. All were trial fitted off site.

Redecorations

Washdown, preparation and full redecoration of both the new and existing shelter surfaces with a specialist marine grade paint system.
